For me,
the death of Pope John Paul II,
came as a horrifying and shocking news.
i was really overwhelmed.
although i expected it to be coming,
it still was a shocking tragedy.

The news affected me pretty badly,
i must admit.
my eyes were filled with tears,
i was trying really hard to hold them back.
it was really very disheartening and depressing.
deep down inside of me,
i was crying badly,
i could feel the pain.
the heart-wrenching experience
was growing more melancholy
as the hour passes.

Pope John Paul II -
A hope for all catholics in the world.
Dubbed as God's Athlete.
A figure of peace and virtue.
An influential being.
A forgiving and loving father.
A caring shephard for his lost sheeps.

Born in a small town near Krakow
southern Poland on May 18, 1920
He was solely brought up by his father, who was an army officer
adfter his mum's death when he was 8years old.
Soon after, his elder brother who was a doctor,
died in 1932 due to the outbreak of scarlet fever.

In his life of growing up,
he was short of that lil something,
which was family love.
the lost of his brother and mother
had a great impact on him.
He had to depend on himself,
fend for himself,
and spiritually enrich himself
with the things he learned form different people.

He was a rather dashing man,
and many girls were after him.
He took no interest in any of them.
But he was very talented,
and was a potential theatre actor,
who in turn was a poet too.

He became a parish priest after that,
and went on to become bishop of Krakow.
He became a pope in the year 1978.
During the last 2 and a half decades as a pope,
he has met virtually every significant
head of state and government,
leaving a lasting impression on them.

Even when there was an assasination,
in 1981 when Turk Mehmet Ali Agca,
shot three bullets at the pope,
wounding him seriously,
the pope went to visit him in prison,
after he recovered and forgave him.

He's a pontiff,
a religious and compassionate leader,
who only wanted peace and harmony in the world.
He took painstaking efforts,
to encourage everyone,
to believe in God and to have faith in him.

He was a very active person.
who loves sports,
literature and little children.
He was able to speak 8 different languages.
An impressive man,
who was against,
contraceptives and abortions,
for all of these were the killings of an unborn.
and the injury of not having a kid,
by the natural way.

Karol Wojtlya is the 263rd successor
to St. Peter as Bishop of Rome.
The first non-Italian pope in 45oyears,
and the first from Eastern Europe.

Pope John Paul II,
visited many countries,
129 in total,
including Singapore in November 1986.

For the past few years,
we have seen him as an image,
of extreme severe physical limitations
- a man struggling, a man in pain.
His face all puffed up and his hands shivering.

Only till This morning,
at 03.37 am (singapore time)
he left this world peacefully,
to join the Lord,
in the reigning Kingdom of Heaven.
where he will be blissfully living a much
deserved life.

For all the things he has done
for the people on earth.
With much gratitude and love,
I thank him from the bottom of my heart.
He will forever be missed and remembered by me.
It was a shame i did not get to see him personally,
when he came to Singapore.
till now, i really wished that,
i could have at least spoke to him,
or shook his hand personally.
He has been a great spiritual guide to me,
and i respect him for all the things he has done.
The ache in my heart is indescribable.
I just hope the best for him,
and the best for the world,
in the waiting of another Pope.

Dear pope,
you are a great father,
a great friend,
a great condfidante
and a great guardian.
for all the things u've done.
u've touched my life.
i want to be like you,
to be able to forgive,
to live life well,
and to love everyone.
may you rest in peace.
